The Jungle-Dead Forest

From mid to southern Gozlimer a vast jungle forest stretches on the western side. On the eastern side stands an immense forest of dead trees. The jungle is alive with plenty of animals, birds of paradise, jungle deer, and other fauna trotting and eating delicious fruits and nuts and smaller vermin. The dead side boats no comfortable wildlife, only sickly buzzards and green-tinged rabbits ravaged by some awful disease that infects but doesn't kill. The jungle has trees of great height and rich mahogany and ebony trees grew in tandem, racing towards the thankful sky. Opposite, the twisted gray or black trees with swollen trunks and thin branches that snap in the dry wind. Plenty of clans and tribes call the jungle home, druids and nature lovers alike live generations without ever seeing outside of the forest for all they have is there. Only a handful of peoples, hardy and tough and few, live in or around the dead trees, eke out their survival in the few, small places of good soil and fertile land.   These vastly different biomes are not miles apart, but side by side. They exist on either side of the peninsula, it is true, but they meet at a defined middle, and back at the end of the 1st Era they were one jungle. During the war with Jour the cloud giant lich-king, northern Gozlimer when it was called something else was a particularly harsh battlefield. During some long battle, a group of wizards fighting against Jour used all manner of magic to suppress him. Laughing, he took their magic and threw it back with evil, necrotic energy. This energy was overpowered and cut the very earth itself with its powerful wave, straight down the middle of Gozlimer. In a matter of moments, half of Gozlimer's southern side became cutoff from the live-giving essence of the jungle and subsequently shrank and withered as it is today.

Geography

The western half is a lush and thriving jungle, full of life, called "Jungleside". The eastern half is full of rocky, dead hills covered with gray, twisted trees without any leaves, called "Deadland" though not to be confused with Enor Daeg's Deadlands. The pools found in Deadland are noisome and fetid. Water on Jungleside comes from pure springs bubbling up and over playful hills and deep hollows.

Ecosystem

Jungleside is home to all manner of birds, deer, monkeys, snakes, spiders, and other interesting creatures. Deadland has only starving buzzards, boar, and rabbits.

Localized Phenomena

Every night around the Rift there emanates a weird purple and green effervescent light until morning. There's a low, steady noise as a single, monotonous note being played ceaselessly. The rift also appears to open wider without any quaking or rumbling. Few witnesses say their vision seems to fold and pull back the earth as if their vision bent a sheet of paper. The earth pulls back, the a clear heat shimmers the area as the light pours out. This lasts until an hour before daybreak; not matter the exact time it is always one hour.

Fauna & Flora

Jungleside

Fanged deer, red boar, birds of paradise, ground lizards, pythons and anacondas, giant spiders, trolls, yuan-ti (rumored), some large, giant, unknown creatures that aren't seen much.   Many species of ferns and shrubs and trees. Ebony and mahogany are the largest and most prevalent. A good number of jungle cedars also populate the forest.

Deadland

Red buzzards, green-tinged sickly rabbits, boar, and the occasional eagle, which are seen as good omens.   Virtually nothing can grow here except the few pockets of good soil found and settled by the small Diapritter population. Trees are dead and thin, grass without any color or nutrients.

Natural Resources

The ebony and mahogany of Jungleside are the truest resources, as is the exotic game. Deadland hosts some mines but mostly is without export.
