Seer's Vision Condition in Uto Daeg | World Anvil

Seer's Vision

Transmission & Vectors

Ingestion is the only known way to receive this effect.

Causes

The substance of distilled certain chemicals and botanical plants settles in the stomach when consumed. The natural stomach acids break the chemicals down which get absorbed into the blood. If not consumed immediately when hot, the liquid is rendered ineffectual.

Symptoms

The blood races, the veins and arteries turning purple. This signifies the effect. The user may feel lightheaded or have an accelerated heartbeat. In less than a minute the creature's vision will fade and be replaced with a psychedelic array of colors and non-euclidean geometric shapes effervescent and twisting. These either fall, turn to mist, or some other hallucinatory images before total blackness. After what the user thinks is an eternity but is really only a few seconds the visions come.   Quickly, lights and sounds of some future event yet to be seen floods the senses. Every sense is stimulated. The events that take place are always metaphorical but always true. False interpretations led many to act out as if the metaphors were real, leading to a rise in crime. Hence, this drug is illegal and downright disparaged.

Treatment

Although the effects last a few hours, some have devised ways to come out early if the trip is bad enough. Things such as milk or incense calm the blood and brain, bringing the affected back down. A restoration spell would also affect the user, as it is technically a poison.

Prognosis

Not common, death is a possibility. Usually death occurs to young adults who take too much. The method of ingesting can also cause severe pain, as the chemical needs to basically be boiling in order to liquidate. This can burn and swell the throat shut. Apart of ingestion, too much and the psychedelic effect overwhelms, causing seizures and hemorrhaging.

Sequela

Prolonged usage causes addiction. The veins and arteries also can become permanently ventricose, leading to a plethora of blood issues. Addicts also have a longing for the future vision and for things to come as they saw them. The high time and intensity has diminishing returns. Eventually, the addict no longer receives a high.

Affected Groups

All but dwarves have a considerable difficult time resisting the drug and flushing it out of their system. The dwarven hardiness cannot be understated in this matter.

Prevention

The only known and proven prevention is abstinence. Some have tried different variations and near the Gold Coast a popular strain came out that diminished the long-term side effects but at the cost of a weaker high.

History

The first case of Seer's Vision came about a few hundred years before the Clannish Wars in Evoria. Back then the lands were disjointed and envy boiled, spilling over borders. The Wizened — an old sect of viziers in those days — suggested each other compound some substance to gain an edge. They looked to the Gleymorians in Lochish and their dream magic, but since that is strictly magic, they looked at something to replicate it. After finding the substance and figuring out how to use it, some Wizened lost themselves in its euphoria. It effects were noted, though always brought up with a caveat. The Clannish Wars were not won with its help.

Cultural Reception

Seer's Vision is considered very taboo and, of course, illegal. The enforcement of it doesn't depend on public perception as it has wracked several villages that produced it to shambles. There is, of course, a considerable underground for the drug and its effects.
