Rout at Creanrilbil Ford

A skirmish fought between King Shaarif Tazieff of the Cwenites and Mogratûr of the Phaligasso. The conquering Phaligasso met an overpowering resistance and push back at a ford crossing. With their army split, the Phaligasso melted before the Cwenites.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Phaligasso were motley raiders from all around who united under a warlord, Mogratûr. They had many surprising victories over more professional armies. This led them to River Aimalan and Creanrilbil Ford.

Deployment

The Phaligasso army boasted 4,000 troops. The Cwenites amassed 25,000.

Battlefield

The river Aimalan runs through the crooks of hills before flattening out. On either side of the ford are flatlands right after the hills. These flatlands before the hills proved the formidable killing grounds.

Conditions

The battlefield was misty and formless. It had rained lightly and the Phaligasso were not expecting any retaliation or assault.

The Engagement

The skirmish happened just before gray dawn while the boastful Phaligasso slept. Men were still in their tents or sleeping areas when the first wave came through. Before any horn of Phaligasso could be blown, a thousand already lay dead. In two hours only 200 remained and were fleeing.

Outcome

The Cwenites suffered hardly any casualties thanks mostly to the preparations of King Shaarif. Mogratûr fled without more than 200 soldiers to protect him. Shaarif was immediately heralded as "King Peacemaker."

Aftermath

The Phaligasso were never a real threat, though they did still rob highways and try to cause a stir.

Historical Significance

Legacy

This sealed King Shaarif as competent military ruler, For a almost 200 years the kings or rulers of Cwenites paid homage to him and aspired to be him.

In Literature

Many songs and poems and novels mention the event. There are few that are wholly dedicated to it, as it was such a resounding victory. It is more a footnote or stepping stone in the story of King Shaarif Tazieff.
