Eye Pendant

Gobtober 2021: Prompt 11

Image is power. In the High Court of Hlee the fashion and jewellery choices dictate the courtiers' power. The jewellery doesn't give the power, but rather the power requires the jewellery. When a courtier achieves more power for their master, the Lord-Duke or Lady-Duchess must provide more substantial and unique jewellery to denote their courtier as superior in their way. The most prized possession, which was almost banned, is the eye pendant from the Nilesian Court.   The pendant is a necklace of dark metal, some alloy of iron and silver made light-weight. This dark jewellery is unorthodox in the High Court already, but the true unpalatable piece is the gem at the center of the tear-drop shaped metal: a druidic eye gem of red and blue. This gem has supposedly been in the LavingĂ© family for generations, and from one of their ancestors, allegedly. Despite this, many still consider it apocryphal.   The court decided to ask the Nilesian courtier, Joromy, to not wear it. Many prepared for a harangue, but he instead obliged. And so, it was never officially banned. Many despised the look on Joromy's face when he agreed. His countenance turned dark and his smile was nothing good. But many feared the LavingĂ©s and so were thankful for his compliance.
