Termina Ruins

"Termina, a populous city in central Necluda, was destroyed four months ago by a cult that seems to have summoned a massive meteor with an appearance akin to a humanoid moon to completely crush the town. Since there were so few survivors of this incident, it’s been extremely difficult for the Times to establish a valid account of the occurrence, but we do have a few established beings who seem to have survived the mishap on the day of Zisnera’s Blessing (twelfth day of the Guardian Moon)."   -excerpt from the Zonaiite Times, published Harpstring Moon 9, CY 1619

Demographics

Termina was one of the more diverse Temporan towns in its heyday. While most cities on the continent are quite diverse (Zonaius an obvious exception), the towns are typically homogenous - however, Termina was a melting pot of culture and race. In its final census before its destruction (CY 1615), the town had the following makeup:
  • 55% Human, with a surprisingly large Iacchan immigrant community.
  • 15% Hill Dwarf, primarily made up of indigenous Necludan Hill Dwarves who needed to find a way to go unnoticed during the Temporan Genocide.
  • 8% Moon Elf
  • 8% Lightfoot Halfling, typically merchants who moved further south from the extensive wine country in the northern parts of the province.
  • 4% Rock Gnome, a large proportion of the remaining indigenous Temporan gnomes who weren't pushed to the Chaelen continent.
  • 10% others, including Half-Orcs, other kinds of Elf, and the odd Genasi, Dragonborn, or Aasimar.

History

The town of Termina was founded in Garland Moon of CY 1286, after activist Meriwether Birdwhistle began to hear rumors of Temporan conflicts with the Thur Nirkhum Commonwealth. Although Birdwhistle was never aware of the actual reason for conflict, they possessed Blood of the Soothsayer within their veins and could predict calamity for the local populations of indigenous Dwarves. They thus founded the independent city-state of Termina in alliance with Dracowind and the Chaelen Free Territories, to stave off the possibility of the Dynasty sieging their town. Becoming a city-state affords a locale protections under the U5, and even the Dynasty wasn't foolish enough to break those terms.     Termina would be forcibly reincorporated to Tempora in CY 1510 by the Gorecrest Dynasty, several years after the death of Birdwhistle. A teenage Alastor Monmouth would move from his home in the Merchant's Ring of Misty Run to Termina to aid in providing healing to the sick and wounded. He would then spend two decades helping in the construction of a Zisneran Temple with the assistance of Paladins sworn to O'sha.   In the Guardian Moon of CY 1619, Gorecrest advisor Arden Riverfall would take note of Termina as a stronghold for activists and dissidents. Rather than simply lay siege to the town, he would instead send Inner Six member Jar'guk Ermendrud to destroy the locale during the Carnival of Time - the day of the year when Termina would be at its most populous.   With a single well-placed Meteor Swarm, Jar'guk razed the entire town to the ground. Only eleven individuals of the nearly 19,000 are known to have survived this incident - Alastor Monmouth, the Goblin Lorelei, eight human children, and the famous halfling artist Danton Wiseacre.

Points of interest

One of Termina's greatest draws was the Temple of Zisnera at the center of town, headed by the now-Saint Alastor Monmouth. It was created as a sanctuary for all who sought refuge from the terror of the Dynasty through exploitation of archaic religious laws protecting structures of faith.
