Freyholde
"The rolling hills shift to the color of all the world's riches as the sun sets over the horizon... and I sip on my glass of aged ichor as cicadas thrum. Oh, idyll, how you call to me."
-Sigøurd Olgasdòttír in her novel The Warbling Wilds, published in CY 1644
Freyholde is one of dozens of farming villages found in northern Necluda, but became the one most recognized in history in two of the wonders it bore: Edwina Pennington and her brother Thomas.
Demographics
100% Lightfoot Halfling
Government
The village's government consists exclusively of a town council who works in tandem with the Vineyard Coalition of Eastern Tempora, as to ensure that the crop remains healthy through the growing season. Other than that, the individuals in this town are mostly left to themselves - a strong mutual aid network (in parallel to several symbiotic and gifted casters, often of Avandra) means that no family goes hungry or sick.
Infrastructure
The town consists of several winding dirt roads that lead into a cobbled 'downtown' area (that contains a city hall, a few shops, and a restaurant mostly geared towards tourists). However, the entire outskirts of what is considered to be city limits is made up of gorgeous, magically augmented vineyards.
Assets
During the Gorecrest Dynasty (pre-1619), the village of Freyholde was relatively impoverished. No government subsidy was given to supplement the creation of artisan wines, and the presence of Watchers absolutely did not help either. However, once the Dynasty fell and was replaced with the Provincial Democratic Conclave of Tempora, Edwina Pennington chose to not only give a sizable chunk of her adventuring assets to her hometown, but rather intimidated then-president Karyon Beeching into providing government assistance to its people.
Architecture
Lightfoot halflings tend to make their homes in what you would consider to be 'stereotypical hobbit holes' - homes carved directly into hills with low ceilings and cozy interiors. In the centuries since the village's founding, the halflings have figured out the intricate secrets to temperature regulation beneath the earth.
Natural Resources
The earliest Holden settlers discovered a vast population of wild goats that they quickly domesticated. Freyholde doesn't export their goat's milk, meat, or cheese, but rather uses it as their main sources of protein and dairy.
Freyholde is also an excellent place for foraging and cultivating wild leeks, onions, and potatoes. When cooked in a reduced goat stock, it creates a lovely soup that is considered the town's signature dish.
