Arcanist's Circle

"Wizards are fickle and devilishly powerful... and can easily slip under the noses of those who know nothing of the Weave. This means an unfortunate circumstance has arisen - wizard must police wizard to ensure that nothing will offset the balance of our world."   -Ceridwen Dancamort
The Arcanist's Circle was founded in CY 312 by Urthaz Chrestwyth and Albrecht von Closen, the then-Master of Divination. Albrecht had visited Urthaz's abode atop an isle within The Great Whirl, as he had received a vision of a dreadful future where an individual would rise to Lichdom through mass slaughter. The organization was created to stymie any possibility of wizards attaining that degree of unchecked power throughout the world through tracking the presence of powerful phenomena (typically caused by spells of sufficiently high level), thus ensuring that no tragedy occurred on their behalf.   Naturally, the Arcanist's Circle has not always been successful in this endeavor. Though they were successful in killing Nox Perpetua in the early 1000s (though his soul was instead transmigrated to The Velvet Room instead of somewhere akin to The Nine Hells), they have had missteps throughout history. The most notable of these was the lack of scrutiny placed on known archmage Arden Riverfall in the early 1600s despite him being a known member - he was able to sufficiently distract the Masters of Magic from his activities.
