Feast of Spring Blossoms

T     he Feast of Spring Blossoms is a tradition based out of The Meridian Church, but is widely celebrated across Opus. Beginning when the Queen's Blossom blooms within the Inner City of Meridia and lasting over the span of a week, this event takes place is most large settlements, and draws in visitors from across the continent to partake in the festivities.  

Religious Significance

  The Feast of Spring Blossoms is said to take place during the approximate time that Mother Meridia gave birth to the first Highborn, Ailluin the First. Said to signify the beginning of spring, this festival represents fertility, new life, and a positive outlook for the new year.  

Festivities

  The festivities for the Feast of Spring Blossoms last for one week following the blooming of the Queen's Blossom. Though it varies from place to place, various kinds of activities occur during this festival, typically sponsored by the local government or community.    Some of the typical events include lantern lighting every night, which is considered to be symbolic of the rising of new life. It's also not uncommon for large street parties to occur, usually complete with a selection of foods and keepsakes from vendors. Some other common activities during this time include: drinking games, gambling, the daily exchange of gifts (especially between family members or close friends), as well as large street parades and flower planting.   It is customary for homes and individuals to decorate themselves in red and gold colors, as they symbolize health and prosperity, as well as representing the Imperium as a whole. During this time, those who can afford to take time away from their day-to-day business to relax and enjoy their time with their friend and family. Those who would rather take advantage of this joyous time, however, tend to spend the prior days or even weeks preparing food and other merchandise to sell.    It is said that during the festival, certain vendors or prominent entertainment individuals hand out mysterious golden tickets to those who complete tasks for them. The tickets can then be traded into a designated vendor stall on the last day of the festivities for exclusive rewards.
