The Silvered
A ravaged group of full-time guards in the Argentis mines.
Two abreast, supported by a crossbow over their shoulders, the mercenaries held the line in the tunnels. A dark commander is slain as the duergar are pushed back. Their weapons used against them, the tunnels are collapsed and peace is achieved.
A diminished organisation in recent times, The Silvered are a mercenary company with a permanent contract: to guard the mines of Argentis from threats within. Most famously, the previous captain Bashar Yasim singlehandedly slew a bulette in 802AA, saving the lives of several workers.
The majority of The Silvered fell during the demon incursion of 804AA. Many betrayed their comrades and followed Bashar into forming a blood cult, trading their souls for power on The Material. After these events, the group fell in number from around 80 members to below a dozen. Due to this, the company is without a fully-fledged captain; instead, Corporal Ulrich Colton is acting-captain for the forseeable future.
Structure
At its peak, The Silvered had a total of 76 armed combatants.
The company also has a few noncombatants.
Assets
The Silvered were housed within a private barracks that included a bunkhouse and a training area. This building burned down under suspicious circumstances while the adventuring party were busy in the nearby mines.
Each soldier was, at minimum, equipped with the following:
Individual soldiers would sometimes supplement these with their own possessions. Notably, Bashar Yasim carried a Hungering Spear.
Since the weekly wages of the company would total roughly 800 gold pieces, there was a safe that usually contained double this in coinage and paper marks.
History
The Silvered were founded on the 13th of Growth, 797AA by a contingent of experienced guards from Argentis and other nearby settlements. They replaced most of the town guard's duties within the Argentis mines almost immediately - it was an intensely disliked post by many. Since the company was formed for more military action than the town guard, it quickly got a reputation for solving defense issues within the mine. Two years after its founding, The Silvered were instrumental in fending off an attempted slave raid by duergar from the Deeps below.
In 801AA, the organisation was taken over by Bashar Yasim, a skilled warrior originally hailing from Lower Bhurm. He had served as a lieutenant for a little less than half a year beforehand but his promotion was agreed upon unanimously by the other officers and by Lady Serah.
In recent times, the organisation fell prey to demonic corruption. More than half of its members, spearheaded by Bashar, formed a blood cult linked to the glabrezu Zeerzalchom. Many of the remaining members were captured or fell in combat to these cultists. As is common with blood cults, their numbers diminished over time and the adventuring party - tasked with saving the mines by Duke Jerref Farhawk - slew Bashar and his men.
Now, the company exist in an uncertain position. Their patron, Lady Serah, really a night hag in disguise, has perished. There are very few surviving members and their headquarters have been destroyed. There are tentative hopes that the organisation will rebuild but it is expected that new members will need to be recruited from outside Argentis.
