Argentis

World-famous silver mines. The financial backbone of Dunsland.

Often known as the treasury of Dunsland, Argentis is the ducal seat of Silvershire. The town is dominated by the expansive silver mines that form the basis of its strong economy; there are a higher proportion of dwarvish residents than most other settlements within Dunsland. It is ruled by Jerref Farhawk who has a reputation for ruling fairly, if a little passively. The city is built nestled into a short, three-sided valley, its main entrance and road to the south.

Upper Quarter

Containing the town castle and most of the wealthy housing, the upper quarter has the upmarket houses and highest quality shops. The upper quarter is built onto the hills to the west, the castle at the most southern point where it watches over the city limits.

Middle District

Most of the shops, residences and infrastructure are located on roads that branch off the central thoroughfare - the wide paved road that runs from north to south through the city. A stream runs along this road, swapping sides in several places by passing under bridges made of white stone.

Industrial District

At the northern limits of the main thoroughfare lies the entrance to the Argentis Mines surrounded by its supporting buildings. The air is often dark with smoke from the heavy smelting operation that creates the silver bars the city is famous for. This district also contains the workers housing and a large portion of the standing military.

Government

While the duke rules Argentis directly, much sway is held by those who manage the mines. This has shifted in recent times with the death of Lady Serah, a night hag in disguise. It remains to be seen which members of the elite rise up and gain additional responsibilities going forward.

Unlike many of the major settlements in Dunsland, the church of Thirasmus does not have a strong say in city politics. This is due to the unusual demographics - a higher ratio of non-human inhabitants has led to a wider range of popular religions within the city.

Industry & Trade

Argentis is famous for its silver mine. The profits from this industry not only cemented the city as a local power but also were pivotal in the founding of the kingdom of Dunsland. Silver ingots bearing the stamp of Argentis are traded throughout Sondrana and beyond. A large number are transported to Dun where they are minted into silver pieces.
