Personal history
Adonis was born as Aphrodite von Leclair to Count Hera von Leclair and the previous duke of the Duchy of Egostead, Duke Mauchot. Duke Mauchot left when Adonis was just a baby and left Hera to parent her child on her own.
When Adonis was 13, he ran away from home after the death of his grandfather. His grandmother lost her sanity and attempted to lock Adonis away in the basement of the Leclair estate. He cut his hair, changed his name, and became a pirate. He lived as a stowaway on many pirate ships.
At 16, he met his now-husband, Odysseus, on the island of Iashela and formed the SS Prism together. He ran the Prism with Odysseus as his first mate for six years before the ship capsized and supposedly killed everyone except Adonis.
Heartbroken and plagued with survivor's guilt, Adonis roamed the shores and cities of Taegrith until he met an icy swordswoman with a sharp tongue. They adventured together, found Odysseus and the remaining survivors of the SS Prism, and in 14 EE, saved the rest of the world from the plight of the Blaid Thon’s unseely fey alongside the swordswoman.
Adonis and his husband married and "retired" before Adonis was approached with an offer to teach at the Akaris Military Academy. He gladly accepted.

Odysseus Alighieri (husband): Adonis and Odysseus have been star-crossed lovers since the age of 16 when the two of them founded the SS Prism pirate crew together. They fought side by side in the second Wild Hunt, and not even death could separate these two because they kept cheating it. They have been married for 10 years and are truly the Twisted Fate and Graves of Urina.
Professor Celia Hawthorne (coworker): Because it is so incredibly easy to upset Celia, Adonis finds it so incredibly easy to tease her. He picks on her, she gets upset. Not a single day goes by at the academy where Celia doesn't yell "ADONIS, YOU SCOUNDREL!"
Professor Darius Liir (coworker): Adonis has an actual weakness for broody swordsmen. Darius is the one person at the academy who could truly put Adonis in his place and shut him up. Kind of girlboss of him.
Professor Wen Huizhong (coworker): Adonis and Huizhong mutually respect each other and generally do not tend to bother each other.
