The Great Calamity

Era beginning/end

For a long, long time, the world of Urbûn's most powerful and influential inhabitants were the mighty mages. That all changed when the Black Bloods, under the tyrannical rule of Salvador Bronson sought to destroy The Weave, and end the existance of magic, forever. The Spell Purge, commonly known simply as the Great Calamity, brought the world to turmoil. Entire cities were destroyed, landscapes transformed forever, countless lives were lost. It was only by disintegration the Undying Tyrant, Salvador, that the disastercame to a close, and a new Era began. This turning point in most civilizations also marked the beginning of the Corbûnian calendar for centuries to come.

The Calamity, also called Salvador's Breath of Change and the Mageplague by the inhabitants of Naghron was a disaster that struck Realmspace and even the planes themselves on Tarsakh 29 of the Year of Blue Fire, 5 BC, and was caused by Mystra's assassination at the hands of Salvador Bronson and his cult. It continued for a half a decade, leading to the Wailing Years, during which arcane magic ceased to function and the planet of Aestria was transformed forever.
