Languages

in Urbûn

Urbûn is a world with a vast variety of languages and dialects, many of which are associated with specific specific races or ethnicities. Throughout the world of Urbûn and beyond, numerous cultural and regional dialects are discussed. These dialects form the known world's spoken tongue, and help define its people. Common, also referred to as Commonspeech or Common Tongue is the trade language of Urbûn. Almost every sentient, civilized being spoke a smattering of it, and most are fluent. Alongside its dialects, common is the most widely spoken and has since become the undistputed lingua franca among the civiliced peoples (both on a global scale and to some exctent a interplanar one). It serves as the general trade language for most peoples, while Elvish and Dwarvish rank second and third. Languages such as Celestial or Draconic are practiced by scholars, arcane practitioners, or clergymen, while languages such as Infernal or Primordial can be exceedingly rare on the material plane.
