Venusian

Venusians are, generally, so positive about each other’s looks that they will not accept the implication that someone couldn’t look perfect. Instead, they focus on internal beauty, viewing each other’s characteristics as what creates the person they are.

Venusians are people from Venus. They are often positive about their looks and others looks, sometimes to the point that other people feel they are overly obsessed with ignoring ‘potential flaws’   With Venusian names, though many more traditional names are used, there's a reasonable percentage of more 'hippyish' names, and whilst some are more commonly used for men or women, even feminine or masculine names can be used for someone of any gender.

Culture

Average technological level

Venus is considered a solar class IV planet, as it has not been terraformed yet. This means that it cannot be independent and is reliant on other planemos.

Art & Architecture

As buildings on Venus at the present-day need to be able to withstand great amounts of pressure, Venusian architecture often reflects this.

Coming of Age Rites

Venusian teenagers will often encourage their friends who have reached the age of consent for their nation to go out, find someone they like, and have sex with them. Often friends will get their friends condoms or femmedoms for their birthday because of this reason. This has lead to several parents complaining to other parents.

Funerary and Memorial customs

At the Final Sendoff, Venusians are often sent off with a letter from those closest to them.

Common Taboos

One of the worst insults on Venus is ‘ugly’, and referring to someone as such is often taken as personal by not only the person, but their friends, family, and sometimes colleagues. It can also be seen to insult those close to yourself, as well as you. Around children it is treated as if it was a swear word.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Venusians don’t really have beauty ideals, they’re more focused on ‘internal beauty’, a concept which refers to the goodness and kindness of the person, not their looks, believing that everyone should be positive about their bodies.

Ooo so idk why, but I love fictional versions of Venus and I love that your version kind of takes a u-turn. See oftentimes, those on venus would be a bit vain, I mean its named after Venus. You don't do this and i am all the more in love with the article for it. I desperately want to know more! What's their art like and do they have a language? I also love the spin with the word ugly as a cultural taboo and the focus on internal beauty is such a nice touch that really subverts the expectations. Excellent work, though more is definitely wanted!

Thank you! Languages on Venus are extremely similar to their corresponding languages on Earth, as it's only been inhabited for 50 years. I haven't really thought about art until now, but I am thinking that it would probably be abstract art made to make the viewer feel a certain emotion, and not something based in reality and tangible concepts.   More is definitely on the way, such as a quote for that empty quote box at the top of the page.

Ohhh, see I'm on mobile. I didn't notice the box lol. Can't wait to read it, and the language and art makes alot of sense. I also wonder (hindsight working here) how their ideas of beauty developed. if they have only been around 50 years to morph into their unique culture, how did they diverge so quick? Not a plot hole, im not trying to poke any holes but out of curiosity, it was something i noticed. lol

That’s mainly based on the sort of people who left Earth to go to Venus. If your parents believe/think one thing, you too are likely to believe/think it, especially if most people where you live feel the same way.
