Planet A (Plah-neht Ay)

Planet A was a terrorist group located on Pluto and Charon. They believed that people should not have left Earth to colonise and terraform the rest of the solar system, and were hoping to force all of society to return to Earth.

Public Agenda

The organisation aimed to destroy infrastructure on Pluto and Charon to force people to leave the planet and its moon, before moving on to the rest of the solar system, until they forced everyone back to Earth.

History

Planet A was founded in the early 2180's by a group of people who hated terraforming, and felt that humanity should return to it's home planet instead of expanding to the rest of the solar system.    Throughout the early and mid 2180s the group performed several minor acts of terrorism, however escaped justice each time, this would change in 2188.   In 2188, the organisation attempted it's largest and most disruptive act, blowing up the The Pluto-Charon Highway. The attempt was unsuccessful, although the highway was out of commission for a few weeks, disrupting life on both Pluto and Charon. The attempt was unsuccessful, the bomb planted on the highway's car did go off, but instead of destroying the entire tube, it only blasted a hole in the side. Five of the organisation were among the 500 onboard at the time and were killed in the blast. Safety barriers that were raised when the car was breached prevented most of the passengers from dying due to decompression and the blast, however, there were an additional 47 casualties from those close to the terrorists, as well as multiple injuries.   In the time between the explosion and the rescue mission arriving, an additional 13 people had died of their injuries. The bodies were returned to Pluto and Charon, before any bodies of tourists were sent back to the correct authorities.

Disbandment

After the attempted destruction of the highway, Plutonian authorities started a belt-wide search for the terrorists, with the help of those from other Kuiper belt societies. Several of the surviving members came forward, wanting to claim credit for the attack, and within a few months, everyone involved had been found.   Before sentencing, members of the public petitioned to have the criminals sent off Pluto, and eventually they were sent to the newly set up PC-90482, Northern Detention Centre on Orcus

Legacy

Repairs to the highway disrupted life on Pluto and Charon for a period of time, with transport either having to take the form of emergency shuttles or being canceled. On the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, people often gather on Pluto and Charon near the highway to light candles in memory of the people killed.   Members of offworld communities affected also sometimes take part in these vigils, either at their home or after travelling to either Pluto or Charon.
