New Astor

In 2027, after losing the majority of Florida, and parts of southern Louisiana and Mississippi to Hurricane Maxwell, the United States as it was known at the time, began experimenting with fully domed cities of varying sizes. By 2031, with Manhattan sinking and weather patterns becoming more and more unpredictable, New York City was the first major city in line to be domed. At the time, everything in our world was so unpredictable, demand skyrocketed, and almost everyone with enough wealth or clout purchased homes within the 250 square-mile area including New York City, most of New Jersey, Philadelphia, and parts of Connecticut. The new world formed beneath the dome was called New Astor. New Astor is the capital city of the UAP, and the headquarters of the Omega ruling structure. Everyone of importance already had a domicile under the dome when the Revolution began, so it was easy to abandon the Capital and meet in a centralized location during the ongoing National Emergency. By the time this “National Emergency” had ended, the United States was gone, and the Unified America Project under the Omega stood in its place. Guild Members live in New Astor full-time, and must be available to vote and make morality statements at all times. They are required to be visible and approachable by all citizens of New Astor to maintain the appearance that all is well. Humanists, by contrast, are not required to remain in New Astor, but most do either live or have homes in New Astor for convenience. There are Humanists living in other cities in the UAP and throughout California for relatability, but even with separation, they remain under control of the Omega in New Astor. Most Humanists and Project Citizens live in grouped domiciles of varying sizes in the area between the former cities of New York and Philadelphia. Only the wealthiest and most powerful live in the most concentrated population hubs. Suburban life in New Astor is kept bland and quiet. While life in the dome doesn’t appear to be under military occupation, Project Citizens are under constant surveillance and government control via co-bots, social media, and other tech monitoring systems. The military, known as Beta Company, is commanded from the former Philadelphia section of New Astor. This keeps some separation between Betas and Project Citizens. Project Citizens prefer not to be faced with the reality of war, and the Omega would rather not have to be completely transparent anyway, so most of the time, the Beta do not operate or live among the rest of the population.
