Lonetree

Lonetree, Wyoming is an open air border town between Wyoming and Zion (formerly Utah, now a territory within the Independent Nation of Texas) that operates like the old trading-post cities of the West. There are some smaller roads around it, leading from the mines for transportation of rare earth minerals, to the Orbit, which ends just east of Lonetree. Only armored vehicles are used to take Omega officials out this far, and they take private vehicles or air-tran if they have to go any further. Lonetree is the epitome of the “Wild West,” or whatever is left of it. Scorpius Bond controls the economy, law enforcement, and internal politics. The whole town walks on eggshells because of the way Beta enforcers, Scorpius militia members, ore guards, miners, former Project Citizens hiding from society or something else, and anyone else from any walk of life you could imagine all have to share the space. There are occasional issues, but people are expected to settle their differences on their own. It’s taboo for Beta enforcers to make arrests in Lonetree, even to arrest people of Project interest. Texan (and militia) thieves are always in town waiting for opportunities to steal rare earth minerals, and other raw materials necessary for survival. Coyotes frequent Lonetree, helping disaffected Zionists reach a place with access to a life outside religion. And alcohol. And the rare ex-Project Citizen looking for a new life in Zion or further to the militias of Texas. The only way for Scorpius Bond to keep control of the whole town and prevent the Betas from stepping in is through show of force. Like other Chapters, the Lonetree Chapter of Scorpius openly carries weapons. Theirs are some of the biggest that can be found in the NIT, certainly anywhere in the UAP. Lonetree is where Scorpius Bond stands to remind the Omega that their power rivals that of the Beta, and they could make a reasonably impressive stand. At the same time, they ensure the Beta and ore guards within the city are safe, because their presence deters both major theft from resource reserves and petty crime.
