Silk Spider

The main source of raw silk in Undinia, these spiders have homes all over the continents, producing different silk according to their conditions.

Apperance, behavour, and habitat

The size of an average Human hand with coarse silvery hair covering their bodies. Mostly a roundish shape with a little bit of jutting out where the head is. It also has a small point underneath its rear end which produces the silk.   The spiders are for the most part docile and friendly, only attacking when feeling threatened, even then not being very dangerous. As a result, for protection, they tend to group cohabits in an area with a more powerful species that defend them. Each colony is separated into a queen, who reproduces, and Male workers, who produce silk, make the webbing home and cares for the queen.   Found in forests, woods, and orchards for the most part, they spin webs in gaps in the trunk and undergrowth of the tree. While they do still exist in the wild, the majority of the larger colonies are farmed by towns and cities, with only a few being harvested in the wild. It has been found they prefer the Gdooble tree to other types, with large nests forming between the three trunks.

Silks

Lacertillian silk

Exclusively farmed from the Gdooble orchard in small quantities, Lacertillian silk is a lightweight, thin strand colored a topaz yellow. It is the only silk that is undyeable and also a color yet to be replicated by dyes, making it hard to fake. Considered the best quality silk, it is highly prized around Undinia for use in embroidering and design work.

Emerald silk

The most common silk is found in large plantations outside Taoul Reza Noach, and on other islands in the Gem sea. This is dyed and made by craftsmen into various weaves. Like the Lacertilian silk, it is lightweight and thin, creating light breathable fabrics popular among the wealthy of the Gem sea.

White silk

The most fragile type of silk produced, and so is often used for lacing and decorative clothing not designed for normal wear and tear. Harvested at the silk farms just outside The White City and Tarverloth, it is the newest type of silk on the market.

Rivell Silk

produced in plantations in northern Rivell from spiders originally captured from The webbed thicket, these produce a thicker hardy silk that can be woven into warmer fabrics like velvet. This is often used for coats and colder climate clothes.
