Pack of Judgment

The Goliath mercenary war host that would become the main defenders of Targvisk, as well as fighting in the majority of Frostmourns bloody wars. Servants of Hynadon using the title the laughing god, they are one of the bloodiest groups in history.  

Formation

Commanded originally by the High Warchief, this was changed in the later half of the Chroma age to the Smiling general. Under him are the Warchiefs, men with the experience and skill to lead splinter armies, not with the main host, normally around three of these exist at any time.   The rest of the army is split into war hosts of around one hundred each. Each host specializes in a style of combat, with the elite being the Goliath warriors who specialize as shock infantry. These are led by a blooded Jackel, normally the most experienced member of the host.  

Troop types

  • The elite unit is made up of Goliath Shock troops, normally armored in dragon scale and wielding large war maces with armor-piercing spikes. These troops specialize in breaking other formations, including cavalry charges.
 
  • The unblooded are Goliaths yet to earn the right to join the shock troops, these are often armored in medium armor with great axes and swords.
 
  • The red watch is pulled from a variety of races and trained in bows and swords and shields. These have the primary purpose of defending Targvisk and the only host never to be sent on jobs. They are also the most likely to have war games against and so considered among the elite.
 
  • Pack hunters are normally pulled from the keener, more fleet-footed races and serve as scouts, rangers, and ambushers for the host they are part of.
 
  • The remainder of the hosts is the rank and file that fill no special role and train with weapons that they are most comfortable with, normally polearms.
 

History

Origins and crusades

The exact origins of the Pack of Judgment aren't known, what is known however is that they were a fully established group the second half Divine, when they fought the Empire of Akoom in the borderlands. The full host shattered an empire's advance north. Though several more battles happened between the two, it wouldn't be till the group was hired in 122 blood by a necromancer to fight the Demon Prophet that the empire seemed to rid itself of this nuisance, after defeating it in the first battle of the crusade.   Though never dealt a crushing defeat on the empire, it is considered a primary reason for how bloody the northern crusades became, with casualties on both sides rising to higher than any other campaign. The group would resurface in frostmourn at the start of the Rivell revolt, forcing the war on two fronts that would topple the empire.  

lead up to the Draconic war

Continued to be hired by various factions in the area both as defense and attack. but with growing tensions in the late blood age, The pack of judgment was hired to raid several dragon lairs, by both sides of the conflict. With multiple dragons being killed the group came under fire and found itself in a three-way battle against both Drakai and Stormhold, though no victor of the battle was seen, the pack survived and got the most lucrative deal it could with Targvisk hiring it as protection against both forces.  

The pack of judgment

While it served Targvisk, it doubled in size with groups from outside their normal hiring, taking on jobs for other nations that didn't conflict with their main contract. The pack became the wealthiest mercenary group in Undinia. Warhosts ended up being sent all over the world under both Drakai and the Kingdom of Arpad. Gaining the title pack of Judgment due to the fact that most of the time both sides would try to hire the group and whoever got accepted would normally win.  

Undead horde

With undead increasing in frostmourn at the start of the Fey age, The smiling general recalled all hosts home to help defend. When the fighting actually started, they armed every citizen wanting to defend their homes, and the famed Goliath shock troops made sure to shatter every wave of undead that broke through. The last scout to leave reported the red watch leading the defense of the citadel. The group was thought to be destroyed.
