Arpad

King Arpad Moonfire, The spirit ward (a.k.a. First King of Arpad)

The founder of the Kingdom of Arpad, he was the last of his line to use the Elvan Moonfire family name, though the Moonfires would openly confirm the familial connection. A man of average height for a Human, taller than his father, he did inherit the star-like eyes of his father, but the brown hair of his mother.

History

Early Life

Born in a small village in northern Rivell to a retired Half Elf adventurer and Human barmaid, he was born Arpad Althidson. Arpad's early years were simple and full of childhood 'adventure'. He quite often recreated stories, his father told him, with his friends. At fourteen he joined the local militia to help protect the village. He shocked everyone by breaking Elven heritage and favoring a polearm, rather than swords or bows. His younger training with his father meant he often helped train recruits, even those of a similar age. This meant he rose through the ranks quickly and became second in command within three years, he was even marked out by The Purple knights at sixteen, though he refused, citing a responsibility to home and lack of noble blood as the reason. During this period, life was mostly quiet with only a few bandit attacks. Throughout his life, his father did keep disappearing every few months for around a week, stating obligations he wouldn't understand.

The Black Ball

During a farm patrol at eighteen, His group came across a noble's carriage under attack by Raiders. Quickly repelling the attackers Arpad found a beautiful young Air-touched, named Azura, in the carriage. Awestruck, Arpad took a second to gather himself before helping escort her back to the main village to repair her carriage. Though she only stayed a day, Arpad got on well with the, as he found out, daughter of Duke LeMahieu.
A few days later a pair of invitations arrived from the local Duke, an Elf named Elgarus Moonflame. The other was to his father, though his father seemed more surprised by Arpad's than his own. While traveling, his father gave him a quick crash course in nobility etiquette, and the game. The majority of the ball went well, with Arpad even getting a dance with Azura, until the count of Nordfer, Abraham Duchemin, offered up a large cabinet to his lord in tribute. Several undead burst from the cabinet attacking those they could. Being quickest off the mark, used an ancient ceremonial glave to cleave the closest undead. Within moments the treat was over, however, several nobles lay dead, including Azura LeMahieu. Enraged, Arpad stormed up to Abraham, smacking him across the face in a challenge. This was originally declined due to Arpad's 'low birth' until Duke Moonflame confirmed his heritage. The duel lasted seconds with count Duchemin lying in pieces at Arpad's feet.

Spirit Ward

After the ball, Arpad left his village to purge Rivell of the undead filth. Joining still growing Inquisition, Arpad focused on specializing in the undead. Completing his training quickly he ventured out, cleansing the undead. As time passed Arpad gained a group around him to help combat the undead. Due to being the go-to inquisitor for the undead, Arpad gained the name Spirit ward. His family gifted him a halberd specifically designed to enhance his ability to kill the undead. After a few years of cleansing Rivell of undead, Arpad moved towards Frostmourn, where most of the undead seemed to come from. after months of battling, in 302 Devine, Arpad retook the city of Vargh Arpad, Renaming it after himself.

First king

As the first king of the kingdom of Arpad, he expanded the territory and made a bulwark against the undead horde of the north. Inviting both other inquisitors and paladins of Akoom to the region. The remained of his life was spent combating the undead and lichs of Frostmourn. Succeeded by his eldest Son, Coloman I, who took his father's name as his surname.
