Sovereign State of Kankou
Loose-Knit Nation of Islands and Penninsulas
Kankou is a country run by noble state rulers and an imperial royal family that loosely governs the colony-like territory. It is a peninsula with many islands and other ocean related features. Kankou is known to be warm and tropical with white sand beaches and limestone cliffs in the south and southwest, specifically around Aivolos and Notía Nisía, also has seaside cliffs and rolling hills throughout its core, and falls into redwood forests to the northeast and far east (such as Sequoie). It's capital is Limani Ano, however it's most populous city is Nourítíaní, and most governing/noble city is Kípoli. Kankou's natives are tieflings, however not nearly as many remain in the country due to a plague of "purges" upon the country's colonization. Natives are found more commonly in the lesser populated states and at the edges of the country– such as Aivolos, as well as within parts of the more urban cities such as Nourítíaní and Limani Ano.
Structure
Oligarchical system of nobility; nobles govern each state but typically are not constantly present or enforcing of their rules. United governmental affairs are decided by a council of these nobles, the highest authority of which being the Archduke of Limani Ano– ruler of the captial.
Assets
Bustling industry– crops of citrus and other fruits, olive orchards, vineyards, sheep herding, grazing cattle, redwood lumber to the east/northeast, fishing, shipbuilding and many contracted merchant sailing vessels, etc. Kankou does not have a formal land military, but has a large organization of Marines.
History
Kankou was founded by pioneers from the south– mostly Ybele– upon searching for new lands to settle and finding seemingly a paradise, abundant in food sources, scenery, and temperate to tropical weather. The settlers quickly set up homesteads, and the population of humans in the area multiplied rapidly with Kankou's naturally desirable living conditions, the spreading of word of the place to other rich wayfarers looking for free and or a place for vacation homes, and progression of industry and exportation. As perfect as it seemed, the area was already settled in many parts by it's native tiefling population. For the first few decades of Kankou's history, relations with the locals were not awful– as the locals tended to be friendly, willing to trade, and happy to show the newcomers their ways of fishing, harvest, and herding. But humans kept coming, the population skyrocketed and the nobles coming to stay were not pleased with the presence of tieflings in general, steadily pushing them out of new society, and eventually expanding the new society into native land by way of force. For fifty years battles were waged over land and power, but with foreign weaponry and assets the nobility took control slowly but surely, even when natives were clinging for dear life onto their only known lands. In the times after the major battles had ended, for about 100 years "purges" became common practice, in which some radical human residents in Kankou would track down native groups or individuals, or simply plow through an entire town with full force and lynch, raid, terrorize, and overall eliminate much of the native population. These events were not constant, but they happened for such a long period of time and to the point of such a decrease in the tiefling population that in current day (c.1498) Kankou, tieflings are a scarce to none in many states. The exceptions to this are within larger cities (Limani Ano, Nourítíaní) as urban sailors and traders, and far west/southwest in the tropics (Aivolos, Notía Nísia).
Currently, the country is in a state of fluctuating peace– crime is very prevalent in much of the nation, but it does not tend to initiate military intervention. That, and the military is hard to initiate in general, only tending to protect the wealthier neighborhoods as the rich are the ones paying the Marines. The Aspída Lodge was created towards the end of the civil wars in order to manage and eliminate crime in urban areas where the Marines did not. To this day, Aspída Lodge remains a more powerful militant force than the Marines, and the government does not tend to interfere with them, as the Lodge saves them money and effort. It's members are highly regarded within urban areas especially, and they are respected and feared simultaneously as a rogue militant power.

Military
The Royal Kankoan Marines are the official military organization of Kankou. They primarily defend the higher-up estates and guard walled cities and sections such as Kípoli. They also extend into border operations, tracking who enters and exits the country as well as enforcing taxation and other rules as such.
The Marines are lacking in care for the working and lower classes, and as such the true policing force of the urban/port regions of Kankou is the Aspída Lodge; a militant protectorate independent from the government, managing/eliminating sources of crime and protecting against government injustice in hostile situations.

Foreign Relations
Kankou has regular trade with Luquoia to the north, and regular trade with Ybele to the south. Kankou is on good terms with both nations, though Luquoia is far more neutral and Ybele is far more open.
