Vernimov’s Theory of Infinite Selfs
This idea postulates that our consciousness exists in an infinite number of universes, parallel in nature with the idea that every choice spawns a new universe. When one dies in a universe, their consciousness is removed and joins with the next closest universe. So from the outsiders perspective, people die all the time. From the perspective of the self, because the consciousness never experiences an actual death, that person seemingly survives, possibly even in freak chances. Fall from a great height, the person may die in most parallel universes but from their perspective, the only universes their consciousness now resides are the ones where they survived the fall.
