Shadow Fiend Species in Under an Iron Sky | World Anvil

Shadow Fiend

From the staff a shadowy figure gooped out. Full of mist and dark malice. This is the hungry shadow and it won't stop until it is full.

Basic Information

Anatomy

It's form shifted and darted in and out of the darkness. They first thought that it was a pack of Shadow Foxs, but it wasn't. It was a shadow of something that was no longer alive.
The fiend doesn't have any bones. It also looks like someone threw a black sheet over the head, shoulders, and arms of someone. It might look like it has bones but its form is bound to look this way through Necromancy. The best way to describe the fiend is an amorphous humoniod figure with claw like fingures.

Ecology and Habitats

These monsters are mostly summoned by Necromancers to do their bidding. But they can be found wandering aimlessly in forests and abandoned locations. These shadows are unbound to any necromancers. They can be rebound by any necromancer.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The shadows seem to eat whatever life energy or Soul energy they can find. The shadow reaches out from the darkness, most of the time the victim's shadow, to feed. The shadow will then consume the life energy of the victim. When the monster is unbound it seems to want to "eat" the life of pure people. Mostly children or those who have not seen anything "dark."   People thought to be good can also be "eaten" by these monsters, in fact, all people are not immune to the threat of this hungry shadow. Piety and keeping every virtue are tempting to the shadow for some reason, but scholars are not sure why. These virtue are also attractive to necromancers who may want to consider adopting them, although those who do not know much about Necromancy believe that Necromancers also feed off of the light energy that some believe virtues produce for their rituals. These superstitious folks will not open a Conjuration Primer and believe Necromancers are in fact these shadows.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The fiend can move through narrow spaces with ease. After all darkness and shadows are everywhere. Where there are shadows there is the possibility of this monster lurking there. Since the fiend is a shadow it can move silently through the darkness or dim light. It can hide in plain sight in a way. Shadows can be seen but not everything in shadows can be seen.   The shadow can see in the dark and has an excellent sense of smell. It cannot touch or feel. It is a cold-blooded killer in the darkness. It can not walk in the light and will vanish in the sunlight.
