Barony of Torana
The Barony of Torana is a small Barony surrounded by the Melidation Ocean to
the north and west, the Fultar Savanna to the south and the Barony of Atlan to the east. The Barony is only about 140 miles tall by 200 miles long. Much of the Barony is covered in woodlands and the coast is characterized by both jagged cliffs and white sand beaches.
Although more civilized than the northern Fultar Forest and the Northern Borderlands, the forested regions of Torana are far from refined. Fultonians and various other human and non-human
species have waged war over the forest region for millennia. The lack of hills has led to
this forest region to be easily conquered by the strongest group and over the past few
centuries the Fultonians have held that position. Currently Fultonians populate
most the forest and woodlands, with the remainder is made up of Celts, Nubians, Azzurians and Aermani in tributary relationships.
The coastal region is a center of mercantile action and a vacation resort for the Fultonian elite. The coastal towns and villages have capitalized on being the furthest southern reaches of Fultar and conduct extensive maritime trade with Nubia, Ashanti, the Isles and Arabia. The Barony is also home to much of the Fultonian Navy and profits from that infrastructure and investment. The coast is more economically robust than the coast of the Barony of Ashan in part because the last three Emperors, including the current Empress Beuva, are from Tarana.
Tarana is technically ruled by the Empress herself. However she has given day to day power to her Baronial regent, Prince de Kosta. The Prince is the Empress uncle and uses Tarana's wealth to further the Empress' agenda throughout the Empire. Other powerful members of Taranian society are the various Admirals in the Navy, the strong maritime merchants and the priests of Hantithenus and Poseidon.
