The Covenant Organization in Uclandia | World Anvil

The Covenant

The Covenant: a group of Scholars, Priests, Keepers, and Gemwardens who all served Dragonkind. Not all individuals in the Covenant are Human.   Keepers: Individuals who cared for the Dragon Council members & Dragon Partners by keeping the dragon's scales oiled, fresh sand and stones for their nests when necessary & hunting for the dragons when necessary. Sometimes Keepers & Dragons were Bonded, and sometimes Keepers cared for multiple Dragons if they were not bonded.   GemWardens: those who protected gemstones that contained Dragon Magic   Scholars: Individuals who were well versed in Dragon Lore.   The author of On Dragons: A Book by Torhal Ardonatto    Torhan Ardonatto was a well-known Scholar. Qrolius was trained by a Warrior-Scholar, he, in turn, will teach Anthem everything he knows the same way he was taught.   Flamestone: Fist-sized, these stones look like cherry amber, but are as hard as diamonds.     Crisis That Precipitated the Dragons Retreat:   The elemental forces governing Uclandia were becoming increasingly unstable. Wildfires raged unchecked, earthquakes shook the land, and tsunamis threatened the Western coast. The Dragon Council, a group of wise and ancient dragons, sensed an impending catastrophe that their far-seeing members prophesied would kill most of them, and after a Gathering and Council, it was decided they would all leave. They performed an ancient spell known only to dragons, and made a collective decision to depart from Uclandia to preserve their species. They found refuge in the "Välimaa," (a Finnish term meaning intermediate space)   They left instructions with the humans that had tended to them (Keepers) that they would return when Uclandia's need was greatest. The humans had been organized by the Dragon Council into a sect of Scholars versed in Dragon Lore, Keepers who tended to the physical needs of the Dragons, and those who protected gemstones that contained Dragon Magic known as Gemwardens.    Once the Dragons are beckoned from Valimaa, individual Dragons and bond-mates are drawn to each other initially through the dreamscape. They find each other physically, and when they do, the Dragon can communicate with their bondmate through telepathy. The Dragon tells their bondmate about the tattoo. Once the tattoos are complete on both, the Dragons address their bondmates as “Kumppani" ("kumppani" translates to "companion" or "partner,") conveying a sense of equality and closeness. It's a term that feels harmonious and evokes a strong connection between the Dragon and their bondmate.

Great article. I love the idea of the Välimaa, and would love to know more about what it is like for those inside it.

Thanks, Grey! I'll have to write about Valimaa some day.
