Thrall

A slave or serf. Thralls are considered the lowest class of workers in Svilland. Thralls have little to no rights and are at the mercy of the whims of their master. Killing a thrall will warrant a wergeld(man's price) a monetary penalty for unlawfully killing a slave.

Appointment

Thralls are prisoners of war, debtors, or children of thralls.

Responsibilities

Thralls would be responsible for whatever tasks they were assigned, farming, crafting, maintaining the homestead, etc...

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Thralls can be freed at any time, through money or possibly kindness becoming Leysingi(Freedman). A Leysingi often owes allegiance to their former master and will have to vote according to that master. At least two generations usually must pass for Leysingi to lose the allegiance to their former masters and become full Leysingi. If a freedman had no descendants, his former master inherited his land and property.
