Grimfire Mine
Purpose / Function
This crevice in a cliff on the Northern edge of Calendin, set into the mountain face, formerly known by the inhabitants of the Stonegate district as Wirraway Cave. The contract for mining this cave was given to the Ampere Mining Co. was given by the Council of Ash on 23 Ikthun 406 AC.
Defenses
The current layout of the cave is relatively circuitous and has many tight spaces, also inhabited by, as of last expedition, no fewer than 3 species of monsters, though the one explorer who managed a return reported seeing potential mineral deposits in the stone further into the cave.
It is unclear how whether the monsters have coordinated a defense system or if they only happen to collaborate against foreign entrants after their discovery. The initial room is near-impossible to get past due to the two side tunnels which can feed an encirclement if the adventurers get too focused on the beasts in the central chamber.
History
The cave has passed ownership 3 times in as many decades, first being contracted out to smaller mining companies who were given the task of surveying the cave as well as the rights to the resources that were rumoured to lie within. Each of these companies have failed to do a full survey due to the strength of the monster presence in the cave and limited resources, each trying multiple times to eradicate the nuisances from the cavern in hopes of obtaining the resources and profits that come from a mine on the factory centre of the world at the moment.
After the third mining company went bankrupt over Wirraway, the Council of Ash decided to fall back onto one of the more established mining companies from the Grenzberg region, Ampere Mining Co. in the hopes that a company with greater resources might have a chance at clearing the tunnels of Wirraway cave. In a rebranding effort, the AMC has decided to rename the cave to Grimfire Mine to encourage willing adventurers rather than being forced to rely on carceral labour.
