The ardents are the Lords of Azendale, which is to say that they are those who are the owners of the land. These lords have tiers of power and responsibility, which are the Ardent--the lowest rank, the Knodenlort, something of a governor over an Amt, the Azenlort, those elected to the The Council of Ash, and the Primarch, who heads the The Council of Ash.
