Kaldheia Mountains
Pronounced: kald-HIGH-ah
The Kaldheia Mountains are a medium-sized mountain range north of Baromund Forest, marking the natural gateway into Drecuria. The Kaldheia range forms the first true barrier between Tydaria’s forested heartlands and the frozen lands beyond. Their lower slopes are dark with evergreens, stone paths, mist, and cold-running streams, while their upper ridges gather frost earlier than the lands below. Travelers heading to Drecuria often view the Kaldheia Mountains as the moment the journey truly changes—the place where the world begins to sharpen, quiet, and turn toward snow.
Though the range appears nearly unbroken from a distance, a deep natural cleft cuts through its center near the base village of Frosthollow Crossing, creating the main passage north. This route is called the Frostgate because of the cold air that pours from it even before the snowlands begin.
The transition from Baromund Forest to Drecuria:
Baromund Forest → northern Plains of Taji → Frosthollow Crossing at the base of Kaldheia → Frostgate Pass tunnel → Drecuria
The Frostgate Pass
The Frostgate is the primary northern passage through the Kaldheia Mountains and serves as one of the main gateways into Drecuria. Known for its cold winds, frost-lined stone, and sharp shift in climate, the pass marks the point where the northern Plains of Taji give way to the frozen road beyond.
South of the pass, snow appears gradually, dusting the grasslands and gathering around the base of the Kaldheia Mountains. Within the pass, the cold deepens sharply, funneled by stone and shadow. North of the pass, the landscape emerges fully into Drecuria’s eternal snow, where grass vanishes beneath white fields, and the air carries the stillness of the frozen land.
