Sorrowbound Wood

Geography

The Sorrowbound Wood is a lush forest to the northeast of Orlond's northern border. It wraps around Crescent Moon Bay and expands northward.

Natural Resources

The forest supplies the largest portion of wood within the region. Some medicinal and edible plants and mushrooms can also be found for those bold and knowledgeable enough to find them. Wild beasts are still bountiful, attracting trappers and hunters.

History

Hundreds of years ago, the forest was known by a different name to its inhabitants, Arituvae Vandor. A magnificent, peaceful place cared for by Mytha La'alus, a Silver Elf city-state which had lived in the areas for hundreds of years before. The neighboring humans knew it as the Crowned Maple Wood, and utilized its bountiful timber, forage, and fauna for sustenance, in cooperation with the La'ali people.   This all changed after the orc hoards attacked, overrunning the Elven forces, slaying those who couldn't flee, and bringing ruin to the settlements. This event caused many of the Silver Elves to flee to Orlond for refuge, not returning home since.   Now the forest holds its modern name, Sorrowbound Wood, given its tragic history and more recent malign nature. In the last few decades, loggers, trappers, and hunters have noticed a growing corruption spreading through the forest. No one truly understands what has caused the forest to become treacherous, nor has anyone sought to understand its source further. Those who have tried, have never returned. Some say the corruption is caused by displeased spirits, remnants from the orc raids, who seek to reclaim their forest. Others believe that the orc gods tainted the land to claim it for the orcs who took it. Still, more whisper that something more sinister lurks in the shadows, spreading its vileness through the plants and animals.
