Hiven Tech Organization in Turien | World Anvil

Hiven Tech

Sonni: (Sarah the Technology Fairy), after hearing about AB's visit and plethora of cookie recipes, has invited you to her company for another research and taste-testing. Council Member Mayder has informed me that she first asked for Almeta Bearach, but was stopped before she could as Elder Jazzach was in hysterics already. Another trip on land, and further away this time, is not in the cards for now. Thus, she seems to have turned to you. You do not have to give her any information about the recipes if you and Almeta Bearach do not wish to. No matter how much she cajoles you.
She has asked for you to visit on the 31st of this month.
I would like a report on her company, (Sarah's Tech), by the end of this month. Specifically, how large her company is, and the stakes it holds in Turien. For this, think about what would happen to the people of Turien if all sections of her company ceased to exist in a moment.

Hiven Tech is more than just a company that sells technology. It is also the most prominent company that researches improvements and new technologies, as well as the largest stakeholder in the mines. It is also a stakeholder of many smaller companies, like The Destill Tavern, and every government in Turien.

Origins

The company used to be just a small company, but over the last five hundred years has bought up many other technology companies. What used to be the tech district is now just this one company. It was made by Dwarves, as can be seen in the name (High + Dwarves = Hiven; probably just trying to stand above Humans again ... Higher than Humans are Dwarves = Hiven). But after merging with a Dark Elf company 20 years after it opened, it is jointly owned by Dwarves and Dark Elves. The name has never changed though.

It used to be just a small company, with six employees and most of them were family. But they made a really cool thing for the time and were soon able to work with other companies. The other companies were only a little bigger than them, and then one of them stole the really cool thing, but they were soon found to be falsely advertising and the small company of Hivern Tech had made another really cool thing and then they had a different company come and join with them, as a partnership and took out the thief company. From there, Hiven started to acquire other smaller companies in its physical vicinity.
At first, they just bought shares and did trade deals. Then they made a really good with one of the top 2 mining companies. It wasn't long after this thelat the Dark Elves' company merged with them. There was talk of 'marriage' and 'daughter' but all I could find about this was a now abandoned mine and the first flavour of Hiven's Spice. So what I think happened was -
Taegrin: Don't make up stories here. Put them as an attachment later, if need be.
Mimi: Ruining my fun ...
Taegrin: I'm not telling you not to write them, just place them elsewhere.

The Company & its Business Connections

The entire district that Hiven Tech is located in, is actually made up of Hoven and subsidiaries of Hiven. They also have a section of the University that they sponsor in the district. And some partners are able to set up pop-up shops for the workers to enjoy.
All mining companies are either owned by or have deals with Hiven. From ores such as copper to magical moss, Hiven has its hands in everything.  When I went there, the Technology Fairy Sarah had me experiment with some magical ores. They are trying to harvest magic from them or make them into magical devices. Something like that anyways.
Eclern is one of the companies that sells Hiven technology. Eclern sells mobile phones and associated apps. They get the materials and phone designs, as well as the base functionality from Hiven.
Kenger Inc., although they cease to operate now, was another company that sold Hiven technology. Hiven maintains that they will sell to anyone who can buy and that as long as everything is legal on their side, as is the transaction, they have no necessity to find out if the other buyers are doing legal things with their tech. They maintain that people will find ways anyways, so it's better if they put their resources into ensuring everything they do is right. They're not wrong ...
The Destill is where a lot of new Spice are sold. Sarah's department has a branch that researches new Spice flavours, and then are made in The Destill. The Destill has the best Spice manufacturing after all.

Other Connections

Hiven has a stake in every government it can. It has trade with the Mermaids of Coral Palace, both for materials, such as coral and magical ore, and technology, such as pens and underwater pens.
Hiven also has stakes in every Human city government, exchange programs with the Elven Kingdom and is often turned to for help by the Council of Turien and their Hero Program.
Taegrin: Make it clearer who trading what.
Mimi: Eh... fine, I'll try

Cookies

I didn't say much about Almeta Bearach's cookies. Just a little bit on the Gilded Moss ones and no one else could make them better so she shouldn't use the gilded moss for food. She laughed and took a note so I don't think she will make cookies from gilded moss.

Reflection

Hiven Technology is a large company that has a vast amount of stakes in Turien. If they were to instantly cease to exist, Turien might fall to ruin. Definitely the Human Cities will anyways. And there will be less Spice which means less nice flavoured food for me. I might just disappear to the ocean if that were the case.

Supervisor Feedback

Please make sure you complete any section you start, Mimi. Particulalry about the connections to government Hiven has.
You could describe how the Human cities would be brought to ruin in another section of the report. As well as some examples of what Gilded Moss has been used for.
It would also be nice to hear more of how Hiven Tech took over their district.
  Council Notes
Maybe we should be a little more wary of Hiven Tech. Why is there no other company that can rival them?
