Fungifolk

Fungifolk are an intelligent species that can be found in humid and relatively cold woods. Their villages will often be built among the roots of trees, hard to find for outsiders.   They usually keep to themselves. One of their natural enemies are the wolves, who like to use the fungifolk to teach their pups to hunt.   Known locations of Fungifolk are: the Highoak Woods; the Och Swamps and the Lasher Jungle.   Fungifolk villages communicate via the intricate root system of the forest and function as a quick way to deliver messages of importance. The Fungifolk allow other species usage of this network in trade for wares. Most intelligent species believe this messaging system to be the work of The Nourisher and leave offers for him that get collected by the Fungifolk.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The anatoy of fungifolk can be described as enlarged versions of different types of fungi as main body parts. Limbs tend to look humanoid, with some fungifolk being fully mobile and capable of hunting and writing.

Ecology and Habitats

Villages tend to be built underground, among the roots of giant trees. In the The Highoak Woods, that contains scattered bits of Aeroresin underground, villages will be built with a stock of aeroresin at its center. Reproducing in the vacinity aeroresin makes the fungifolk grow their limbs and separates them from regular immobile fungi.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fungifolk have no mouths for food consumption, but rather tap into life juices of flora to imbibe valuable nutrients and rid themselves of waste.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most fungifolk are blind, but have magnificent spatial awareness of anything that is connected to them via the ground. Their natural predators are large birds such as eagles. As slow as some fungifolk are to move, they can quickly exchange information with any other fungifolk through an extensive network of spores. This early warning system alerts the less mobile fungifolk and allows them to hide before danger arrives.
