Inheritor of the Sunken City Character in Tsuwamono | World Anvil

Inheritor of the Sunken City

Thalassic Wardens

Summary

Great, terrible fusions of human and deep-sea predator. Close examination suggests that an Inheritor's upper torso may well once have been human, as it wields a trident and shield with the aptitude of a warrior. Any such humanity is long-since lost, however. The black, ichthyoid skin running up from the base of the human part's waist covers it entirely, unbroken for mouth, eyes, or ears. Yet, somehow, it whispers. The sound seems to drive nearby life mad over time, incessantly worming into their mind even through water. Or, perhaps that is merely the effect of the great Black Sun that Aotsuki Tsukamoto glimpsed within one of the beasts.   These leviathans now patrol the submerged streets of The Sunken City and the abyss below it. Although clearly intelligent and capable spellcasters, Inheritors show no language or sense of self that human minds can comprehend. Rather, their purpose appears to be solely to drive away any explorers or plunderers who would invade their ancient home. This behavior has caused some Dreamer scholars to suggest that the "Inheritors" are merely servants of a greater being somewhere below the Sunken City. Although, it is not pleasant to consider what kind of being greater than these occultic behemoths might lurk in the abyss.
