Telepaths

Telepaths have control over The Mindscape. The mindscape is an imaginary space in every Great Human's head. A common power in the lower ranks but extremely difficult to master, with ~80% of the Great human population able to use the C rank of this power at the very least. Reaching A, S, and U ranks are much rarer however, with a reported ~5% of able users reaching at least one A rank ability. This power is not energy-hungry at the very least, however it can be difficult to maintain a stable mindscape image when tired.

Telepaths V 2

These people are like Sensors, but for brainwaves instead of energy. It is used as almost a sort of hands-free phone with service all around the world. It can be used to speak to anyone from nearly any distance away. It can even be used to speak to unresponsive or comatose individuals through the use of the mindscape.   This is the most up-to-date ranking system for Healing using the Corvil Ranking System for powers and potential. A useful power in any sort of combat, it helps squad members communicate with one another quickly and silently. The letters following the number corresponds to what sort of team rank a user of that ability could be put in while in Bull's Army.
  1. <C. Close-Range Telepathy (Minor): The user can communicate Telepathically through physical contact alone, having to maintain a physical connection to the target at all times throughout the conversation. Nearly every individual with energy is capable of at least this level. It is not necessary to be aware of one's mindscape at this level.
  2. <C. Close-Range Telepathy (Major): The user can flawlessly communicate through physical contact, although a simple touch may be required for this. Meaning the user cannot start a conversation from any sort of distance, but they may maintain one at a distance after coming into contact with their target.
  3. C. Mindscape Control (Minor): The user exhibits awareness and minimal control of their personal mindscape. They have a fully visualized image, however they do not have any control over the appearance of the mindscape nor any sort of powers they may show with further practice. Users are only able to have any sort of control in their own mindscape, and hosting anyone else in their mindscape can still prove to be extremely dangerous because they have little means to defend themselves. They cannot show any sort of control in other mindscapes. This also means they have access to their memories and information through the mindscape.
  4. B. Mind-Reading: The user is able to read the thoughts of another individual nearby without them knowing. This is not the same as speaking to the individual, this can be more easily compared to how Sensors feel other beings near them without them knowing. This is the absolute bare minimum for acceptance into any known organization purely basing off this skill tree.
  5. B. Ranged Telepathy (Minor): The user can communicate freely with another individual without the need for physical contact beforehand.
  6. A. Ranged Telepathy (Major): The user can flawlessly communicate from nearly any distance. Similar to its Minor counterpart, but this rank has a much longer range for communication. The ability for a squad to instantly report news back to their base is crucial.
  7. A. Mindscape Infiltration (Minor): The user is able to infiltrate another individual's mindscape through physical contact. It may take a little bit of time for the user to gain access to the user's mindscape. The entire ordeal of entering the mind will leave the user distracted from the world around them and generally results in their body going limp as their consciousness leaves their body. In most cases the target has to be restrained beforehand in order for the user to infiltrate safely, but after the user successfully enters their head, the target is also rendered immobile for some time. This can be used to gain information or to speak with an unconscious/ comatose individual.
  8. A. Mind Blocks: The user is capable of putting up blocks in order to restrict other individuals' access to certain memories through mindscape infiltration. This can be done to themselves personally, or they can do this to someone else. This can also mean wiping or hiding memories, if necessary. Blocks can prevent additional stress to the user in the event of someone wishing to take advantage of their knowledge. Blocks will not prevent everyone from accessing blocked memories, but it can at least postpone their ability to do so.
  9. S. Mindscape Infiltration (Major): The user is capable of easily and quickly entering another individual's mindscape. This quick entry causes much more stress than slow infiltration and is generally used in emergencies or in torture sessions. Aside from that, it is similar to its Minor counterpart.
  10. S. Mindscape Control (Major): The user is capable of controlling another individual's mindscape as their own. They can override most blocks put in one's head, as well as access whatever memories they wish. Essential for gaining information. This can also include "playing around" with the target's mindscape, such as changing the appearance of it and even access their powers within it.
  11. U. Mindscape Destruction: The user is able to completely destroy another individual's mindscape, possible leaving them unresponsive, permanently comatose, or dead. The user is capable of not just changing the other individual's mindscape aesthetically, but they are also capable of bringing harm to their image. The user can also delete memories as they see fit, or completely remove blocks. The user can still be removed from the target's mind through enough resistance, but it may prove difficult or even completely ineffective, forcing the target to pathetically watch as their mind gets destroyed. Overall, an extremely dangerous ability that brings no benefit aside from providing another way to kill someone.

The Risks

  • Communication through Telepathy is limited to speaking to only one other person at any given moment. It is not an instant messaging group chat where everyone can talk at once. One must be very quick in communicating to groups of people, as it may end up being the Telepath picking and choosing who gets to hear the valuable information first.
  • One can only exist in a single mindscape at any given moment. In order to enter another person's mindscape, the user must leave themselves in a vulnerable position where their consciousness leaves their own body and enters the new host's body.
  • Being injured in one's own mindscape can lead to the individual to either end up dying or going comatose, depending on the damage done. Allowing entry to the wrong person can spell death to anyone not in full control of their mindscape.
  • Replaying one's memories through the mindscape can reveal underlying trauma or trigger any type of episode, as it forces the individual to relive the memory in detail. One must be careful when doing this, as the host can be left mentally broken in the middle of the session with the user unable to continue due to the target now having a broken and unsafe mindscape.
  • Having multiple people in a single individual's mindscape puts additional stress on the host and can lead to the host becoming unable to maintain their mindscape safely. Can lead to a coma.
  • Humans who are known to be at U rank are prone to be publicly shamed, as the power is seen as malicious and too dangerous to keep in a Human. Demons do not seem to receive the same treatment.
  • Anyone who shows potential in this ability is a target, yet only higher ranks have any means to defend themselves from an infiltration or mindscape destruction. If the user enters one's mind, it does not guarantee their full control over their head. Being rash and inexperienced leads to a higher risk of irreversible damage through using this ability. Most common side effects include the development of personality disorders, a coma-like state, loss of the ability to use this power, and other possible traumas.

The Origin

This is the natural form of communication between Demons, as not all of them have any sort of vocal cords in order to produce the sounds most Humans can hear. It developed as an ability for Great Humans later on through their relationships on this world.   The mindscape and its relationship with this power however, is an innately Human thing. Demons do not seem to have their own mindscape, even though they are able to live in a Human's.
