Fabien Jaubarre
Lord Fabien Jaubarre, Knight Grand Commander of Kapok
Fabien is the leader of the Knights of Kapok within Narland. He has held this position for around 20 years, having previously served as a patrol knight within the region. As such he has had a long relationship with many of the senior members of the Guilds of Narland, including the council. In particular he would count Mayor Sunya as a close ally.
For many knights of the order, working in Narland is considered the worst of the nations to be posted to. The absence of Narland nobility means that it is coin which gains you access to high society, rather than simply a high born family, so for most knights in Narland the best eating and drinking becomes unaffordable. The respect of those with political power (whether senior guild figures or village elders) is something to be earned, rather than assumed. Fabien has little time for the excesses of a typical Lassan noble's lifestyle, so he relishes his position in the more practical society of Narland.
While he finds much to admire in Narland's social mobility, he retains his Lassan instincts to look after those who are unluckier in life. He has often suggested to the council that more funds could be invested in infrastructure in poorer neighbourhoods of Sturmin, or into developing new employment opportunities in small towns across the state. The Guild leaders will typically only bite on one of his ideas if they can work out how they would turn it into a profitable enterprise, which Fabien finds particularly frustrating. Nonetheless, he feels he has been able to enact some positive changes in his time, and is cautious to maintain his political relationships.
His cautious nature however does not prevent him from taking decisive action when he feels it is justified, and the political position of Kapok within Narland does allow them to make arrests or even executions without consulting with the local political leaders.
