House Byoff

Leader: Wityou Byoff

Great House: House Dinn

Province: Flaven

Economy: House Byoff thrives on bureaucracy. They are the toll-collectors, fee-takers, and coin-counters of Flaven’s waterways, managing ferry tolls, canal taxes, and all forms of fines under the authority of House Dinn. No boat passes through without greasing a Byoff’s palm. Their ledgers are famously extensive—one clerk is rumored to have gone mad trying to track a bribe that had technically bribed itself.
"Nothing’s free, Byoff decree."

Military: House Byoff maintains a modest but efficient guard force known as the Coincord, trained more for the prevention of tax evasion than open battle. While lightly armed, their enforcers are dogged, paper-armored (quite literally), and legally ruthless.

Culture: An obsession with order, process, and paperwork runs deep. Every family member is trained from youth in the art of bureaucratic delay, passive-aggressive letter writing, and the filing of form B-66a/Underlight Canal Traffic Violations.
They speak High Speak with an extra level of formality and always carry at least three wax seals on their person. House Byoff is viewed as a necessary evil: dull, disliked, but indispensable.

History: Originally a minor toll-house operation with a single ferry post, House Byoff rose in prominence during a crisis of flooding in southern Flaven. Their ability to "accidentally" deny water access to rivals earned them favor with House Fey-Rae, who elevated them in exchange for loyal management of ferry logistics and an unwavering eye on every coin crossing their territory. Since then, they've embedded themselves in nearly every canal contract and waterway transaction in Flaven.
Many suspect their records of tariffs and tolls are so dense they may contain secrets that even the gods have forgotten or would prefer remain buried.
