House Boarder
Leader: Allar Boarder
Great House: House Dinn
Province: Flaven
Economy: House Boarder makes its coin through a mix of border tolls, travel permits, confiscated “contraband,” and livestock breeding. The later is based on their prized battle-trained boars. These creatures are sold to minor Nobles, mercenaries, and even used ceremonially in mock wars and executions. The House also earns a modest income from “fine collection” services, essentially levying and enforcing arbitrary fees at the edge of Flaven’s domain.
Military: House Boarder maintains a sizable force made up of grizzled veterans, overzealous members of their house and a surprising number of spear-wielding Serfs desperate to avoid boar tending duties. Every guard is trained to ride, herd, and control the massive tusked boars bred in the house’s stockyards. These beasts are armored and violent, more likely to gore a trespasser than allow one to speak. Patrols are constant on the eastern edge of Flaven, especially near the disputed lands bordering House Gha'ard influence.
Culture: House Boarder prides itself on stubbornness disguised as vigilance. Their motto "None Shall Pass (Without Paperwork)" is etched into every gatehouse they control. Nobles of the house speak exclusively in High Speak and look down on even minor irregularities in language or attire. Outsiders see them as bureaucratic nightmares in muddy boots. The house views itself as the last defense against the “filthy martial tide” of House Gha’ard and uses that paranoia to justify increasingly absurd inspection rituals and checkpoints. The boar is not just their sigil but their ideal: stubborn, dangerous, and rarely housebroken.
History: Originally a simple herding family settled on the edges of Flaven, House Boarder was elevated to noble status centuries ago after defending Flaven’s borders from a military incursion of House Gha'ard's predecessor during one of their forgotten land-grabs. In the aftermath, House Dinn granted them nobility in exchange for permanent border control responsibilities. Over time, they gained a reputation for ferocity and pettiness in equal measure. They have never forgotten the blood shed on their soil and treat all House Gha’ard travelers as “hostile until proven boring.” This simmering hatred has prevented any real peace between the provinces for generations, and House Boarder has little interest in changing that.
