Goblet of Victory Item in Tremanac | World Anvil

Goblet of Victory

An ornate goblet that was presented to the Order of the Rod by Virid.   The goblet is made of what looks (and weighs) like black iron, though it doesn't seem to rust. The base is made of six triangles of metal rising to the neck, with a garnet in each face. When the goblet is active the garnets emit a faint glow. The main body of the goblet is a deep bowl which is embossed with the symbol of Virid, interspaced with rubies.

History

This goblet was delivered to Lord Yerath by a divine messenger on behalf of Virid on the eve of a great battle against the Tarinites. Yerath was instructed to use the goblet in leading a toast to victory before setting out for battle. He obeyed this command, quickly arranging a ceremony for the next morning. After drinking a toast to victory Terath saw that the goblet refilled itself so he passed the goblet around his officers so they could all share in Virid's blessing.   Yerath and his officers led their troops in a crushing defeat of the Tarinites which then allowed Yerath to rise swiftly through the ranks of the order. The goblet was recognised as a holy object of Virid and for a time Yerath lost control of it, as the senior members of the order took it into their keeping. However, they were unable to replicate the effects seen by Yerath.   When he gained control of order Yerath tried to replicate his own success with goblet, but to no avail. It was only when the order found itself threatened by a combined force of Tarinites and Seyrians that the goblet revealed it's power again, filling itself with wine and glowing with the power of Virid's blessing. With the realisation that the goblet would only work when Virid deemed it necessary the goblet became an object of fear and anticipation. If it activates then it is a sign that great trouble faces the order, but it is also a time for the skilled and powerful to demonstrate their abilities.

Owning Organization
As one of the most important artefacts for the order, losing the goblet is counted a great dishonour. On the few occasions when it has been lost, a grand quest has been called in which members of the order are tasked with retrieving it. They can use any means at their disposal, as long as it is aligned with the Order's standards, ranging from raising an army to challenging the person holding the goblet to a duel.
