Fey Dragon Species in Tremanac | World Anvil

Fey Dragon

A spirit from the Feywild that resembles a small flying lizard.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures have 4 legs and a pair of wings. Their tails make up almost 1/3 of their length, and the main body accounting for another third, and the head and tail the remainder.   The neck and tail have a remarkable level of flexibility. The tail is used for balance and to hold on to branches or the creature's pet mortal when they are on the material plane.

Behaviour

While there are staid and quiet fey dragons, these are unlikely to be encountered on the material plane. The ones normally encountered are the playful and adventurous ones. This has given rise to a belief that all fey dragons are this way, not helped by the most famous ones, like Nazith and Pax being well known for the whimsical and eccentric natures.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Despite an inability to communicate verbally with humanoids, these creatures are highly intellgent. They are capable of understanding complicated concepts, though their short attention spans tends to limit how much they learn about any one subject.   They are frequently used by The Archfey as messengers and advisors for those mortals who seek power and favours from the Feywild. Despite their plaful nature, the fey dragons have proven to be the voice of reason for more than a few groups of adventurers.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

While capable of communicating between each other with chirps, a fey dragon's main form of communication is telepathy. Since they generally don't have a good grasp of humanoid speech this usually involves them sending pictures and trying to pick images out of other creatures' minds. Being able to pick up the presence of thoughts can make them good at keeping watch, if they can be persuaded to pay attention for more than 5 minutes.

Civilization and Culture

History

Fey dragons did not come about naturally. They were created by a member of the The Archfey, but exactly who is unknown as none of them seem willing to admit to it. Why they created these creatures is just as much of a mystery with theories ranging from one of the archfey wanting to annoy a full sized dragon, to them being created as an aerial force for attacking the opposing court.
