Church of Drack Organization in Tremanac | World Anvil

Church of Drack

Organisation which spreads the word of Drack, deity of law, order, and crafting.

Structure

The church is divided into Divisions with each one assigned to a different country. The divisions operate independently and there is relatively little movement between them. This is because each division specialises in the laws and customs of their home country, and makes minor adaptations to what they teach about Drack's tenets to align with what is permitted within that country. A division is split further into:
  • Lawkeepers - Those that enforce the law or make judgements on whether the law has been broken.
  • Lawmakers - Those that advise rulers on making and improving laws.
  • Truthspeakers - Those that preach in the temple and attempt to recruit new converts.

Tenets of Faith

Laws exist to server civilisation. A bad law can be changed, a law that isn't appropriate for a region can be struck from it's legal code, a new law can be added. But the law must not be broken, for the law is what allows society to survive.   There is a proper order to all things and all things are bound in order. This applies to objects, crafts, and even people.   Law and justice are not the same. Law is driven by fact and is a fixed point for all. Justice is driven by emotion and varies from person to person. Strive for the absolute of law rather than the intangible justice.

Priesthood

The lawkeepers of Drack are warriors, judges, legal experts, and crafters. They are recruited from a wide spectrum of backgrounds, though those backgrounds become largely meaningless once they enter training. The law applies to all, as do the rules during training. Wealth and influence make no difference when dealing with those who transgress during training.

Political Influence & Intrigue

By their own rules, the clerics of Drack can never be rulers. They instead try to work with a lands rulers to both create and administer the law. It is not uncommon for a new ruler to be approached by this church with an offer of creating laws and running a court of judgement.   Even when not employed in this way the church acts as a mediator between different lands. Many great diplomatic triumphs were arranged though the efforts of Drack's clerics, though their role is rarely made public. Their near legendary dedication to maintaining a neutral position throughout negotiations has earned them a great deal of respect in diplomatic circles though it rarely wins them any friends amongst the general population.
Humourless, uncaring, and rigid are terms frequently used to describe the clerics of Drack. Their seeming lack of empathy in making judgements makes them unpopular in many circles and the church frequently struggles to attract new initiates, let alone worshippers. As a result the clerics spend more time actively trying to recuit members than many of the other churches.
