C10-95-04-17 - Heir Implicated in Murder
Further details have emerged about the horrific murder of Nulgin Magrannor last week. According to a report released by Rocksoul Palace the elven assassins were able to bypass the palace’s defences thanks to information and help provided by an insider. The report goes on to name Nulgin’\s son, Muldoon Magrannor, as the chief suspect.
Muldoon has been absent from Khezdur for some time, having departed to inspect a refinery before the scale of the hobgoblin invasion forced the sealing of the halls. Soldiers sent to escort him back have not reported in, and there have been hints that he may have been involved in the disappearance of former general Bardil Steelfist.
The former general is now believed to have been behind his own disappearance, which has taken on a more sinister aspect in recent days. As far as it can be determined, it appears that several cubes are acting in defiance of orders on the surface. At first glance the instigator of this rebellion appears to be Batled Burban Shieldwright, whose incompetence led to the escalation of the conflict with the hobgoblins. Burban has long been a favourite of former general Steelfist and the disappearance of Bardil aligns with a unit under Burban’s command making an unauthorised appearance in the Khezdur.
While it may yet prove to be coincidental, Burban’s forces include a unit which includes several elven soldiers. One of these soldiers already caused a disturbance last year in a violent altercation with an apprentice wizard, and the rest of the unit have been linked with other questionable activity. We also understand that the elven royal court is not contactable at the moment, despite the fact that contact has previously been maintained even during the years of the demon raids.
This shocking turn of events has added further complexity to discussions around The Magrannor’s successor. Should the potential charges against him be proved, and we must stress that he has not yet been found guilty, then there will be little question about Bronwyn succeeding her father. However, to avoid any potential issues should Bronwyn be named heir and Muldoon found innocent.
As a result the regent has agreed to continue in his role until the question of the succession is clearer. We understand that Bronwyn has agreed with this decision, especially since she is understandably believes that her brother is innocent of these charges.
