223 / 03 / 07 - Chirin to Resist Aggressor

For several years now the Kingdom of Caresnas has been waging a campaign against the people of Chirin. Villages that once looked to Chirin for support have been absorbed by Caresnas' ever expanding borders, with the people living there subjected to the rule of the unelected nobility. These so called nobles rule by right of who their parents or grandparents were rather than as a result of skill or the consent of the people.
The Greth family that stand at the top of Caresnas' flawed system of governance have used their unearned power to order that new settlements be brought under their control through intimidation, economic pressure, and at times force of arms. In 221 they turned their attention to Chirin, demanding that we give up our rights as free people in exchange for their so called protection. Needless to say our freely elected council rejected such a ridiculous demand.
Since then Caresnas has been putting pressure on our trading partners, attempting to weaken our wills so that we accept their rule. In response, the council expanded the size of the Chirin Guard and has been constructing strongholds along the northern border. In addition the town walls on the north side of the Dimar have been reinforced. With our defences in place and spring on it's way, talk in the council has recently turned to how best to defend ourselves.
Arguments have been put forward for two very positions. The first, championed by Head Councillor Nyls Factor, is to adopt a defensive posture to deter Caresnas should they consider an attack. The second proprosal, supported by the rest of the high council is to take the fight to Caresnas and reclaim those villages seized by the tyrannical Greths.
After several days of debate the council voted for the second.proposal with only one person voting against it. After the vote the heads of the Guard and the Patrol were summoned to the council building to begin preparations. Further details will be presented at the end of a parade of those brave souls who have chosen to defend Chirin. The parade will also feature a performance by John Fennan who has been tirelessly travelling around the new northern outposts to boost morale.
