220 / 12 / 05 - Debate around Warforged status continues

As part of our reporting on the debate over the status of the warforged we have collected opinions from various councillors and citizens of Chirin. There is quite a split of opinion between the various council members so it will not come as a surprise if this issue comes down to a popular vote.   "While I sympathise with the plight of the members of the NWM, and agree that the warforged are taking jobs that could be done by the non constructed races, my personal opinion is that the warforged are people and should be treated as such." - Councillor Lankidoodle Macphearson.   "The warforged have enjoyed a privileged position for too long, due in no small part to them doing the job they were created to do. They are constructs. They don't eat or breathe, they don't even sleep. We should be making best use of their abilities as tools rather than indulging the fantasy that they are anything other than golems." - Councillor Terence Carter.   "I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment that the warforged and in particular their former leader, were incorrectly held up as champions of democracy. Do i think the original decision to declare them people was done under duress? Yes. Is it right we review that decision? Yes. Do i think the original decision was wrong? No. These are thinking beings no better or worse than any others." - Councillor Howard Cooper.   "Honestly i can't see any merit in this question, and the second proposal attached to it makes it seem like a cynical money grabbing exercise. We'll debate it and probably put it to a Chirin wide vote, but i can't see anything changing." - Councillor Nikolai Hunter.   "They are constructs that for too long have been taking jobs from real people. In the current situation they will always win out on jobs as they can make do with less. They don't need to eat so no need to spend money on food. They don't need to buy clothes. They don't have families to support. They just collect their pay and do nothing with it. We've learned that almost a 10th of all the wealth n Chirin is currently held by warforged. That money should be going to those that need it to live, not resting in a house that a construct bought solely to hold it's wealth." - Eskevar of Braledon, leader of the Natural Workers Movement.   "I can't comment on whether they have souls or not, that is a question for the temples. From a magical point of view they do bear some resemblance to golems in terms of animation and construction, but the similarities end there. No golem i have ever read about has the decision making ability or personality that a warforged exhibits. " - First Citizen Bowin Gableson   "We may not have the same costs as non-warforged but we do have different ones. We seem to live a long time and some parts get damaged and need replacing. A broken eye is very expensive to replace. We do not undercut non-warforged when taking jobs. We demand the same pay so that we are not the cheapest option." - Captain Arbalest Guardian
