Scaling Ascension
Nestled amongst The Serpent's Scales peaks, rises a monastery dedicated to preserving the knowledge and teachings of the creation of the peninsula and chains of islands that stretch to the north and south. A settlement secluded primarily due to geography, unlike the residents of the Cinder Steppes, they are not reclusive and are known to be warm, friendly, and openly welcome visitors, as a connection to the outside world and opportunity to spread their beliefs. Those who reside here tend to live quiet lives, as farmers or hunters, while those who wish to dedicate themselves to the tenets of their civilization, enter the monastery and become spiritual leaders and defenders.
According to their doctrine, during The Calm and the creation of the world as it is known today, The Favored created and employed the assistance of great beasts called Estragon. Massive, flying, reptilian creatures capable of resisting and battling the raging elemental forces and The First Spawn that ravaged the world. One of these beings, a serpentine creatures of almost translucent golden light called Aurelius, capable of resisting and embodying the most torrid and blazing flames, fell in battle. As he fell and sank beneath the turbulent waters, his final roars expelled a molten stream of rock from his very core. Upon hitting the freezing surface of the ocean, they solidified into the land mass known as the Greenmount Peninsula , and the islands that run to the north and south.
The priors dedicated to the order, believe that each of the 26 islands created from his dying breath, were blessings meant to linger and protect the world. They have adopted those utterances into a language of worship, and have named each of the islands after the phonetic pronunciation of each. Simply speaking this language, is a manner in which the brothers and sisters continuously bring about his blessings in the world. Some believe, that Aurelius was never destroyed, and that he lie sleeping beneath the ground and waves, the lamella of his spine forming The Serpent's Scales, and his indolent respirations forming the molten lava fields to the south, The Serpent's Scales.
Architecture: Burrows, Cave dwellings (as to be closer to Aurelius), Clay Brick, Wood
Commerce: None noteworthy. Clay brick, hunting/trapping
Population: Human, Dwarf, Elf, Lizard-folk,
Society: Lawful rule under an Abbot
Miscellany:
Scaling Ascension, Post Fall: A group of cultists, challenging the teachings and beliefs of the existence of and creation by Aurelius. The claim power under the name of Erythraean, the first flame and true spark, and speak their language backwards, transforming their blessings into curses.
