The Bizarre

A sprawling underground bazar in Undermountain's second level, The Bizarre was the brainchild of Yek the Tall. It is an agreed upon safe haven, and violence is not tolerated within The Bizarre.

Demographics

Although The Bizarre is open to anyone, its semi-permanent population is primarily goblinoid and orc. Adventurers rarely stay at The Bizarre for long, preferring to view it as a last outpost for acquiring gear before tackling Undermountain proper. However, a select group have settled in The Bizarre, working as Franchisees under Yek.

Government

The Bizarre operates somewhere between a business and a crime syndicate, with Yek and his lieutenants acting as de facto leadership. They provide safety and enforce the no-violence rules of the Bizarre, in exchange for a cut of profits from all sales. Anyone wishing to remain at The Bizarre for more than a day or two must work to help the settlement survive. Key lieutenants of Yek include Egen , the caravan master who oversees the trade of food with Skullport, and Marchess, a merchant and cleric who is one of Yek's closest confidants, although their relationship is strangely chilly.

Industry & Trade

Most of the gear sold at the Bizarre comes from loot discovered by Marchess and other merchants. Much of this is scavenged off the corpses of unfortunate adventurers who do not make it through Undermountain upper levels, but the finest pieces typically come from scavenging the second level of Undermountain, which were once arcane laboratories for Halaster Blackcloak's apprentices.
Foodstuffs sold at the Bizarre primarily come from trade with Skullport. These arrive via bi-weekly caravan, the route of which is a carefully guarded trade secret.
There is also a robust trade between Skullport and The Bizarre by ship, traversing the underground rivers of Undermountain. However, foodstuff cannot be transported by these means.
Due to the scarcity of goods, prices within The Bizarre are extremely high.
