Aaroha Desert
Aaroha is the southernmost region of Torineya. Prosperous seaside countries surround it but mostly rely on Aaroha caravan routes to trade with northern lands. The sun here is savage, but humans and other living beings still find a way to prosper - or to just survive.
The town of Midsa marks the center of the desert and the biggest intersection of the trading routes of Aaroha. The network of such routes reminds a small spider web connecting Midsa with the capitals of seaside countries.
The movement of goods through the desert is not considered extremely dangerous for Torineya, but obstacles still exist. The first and most common is the threat of nomadic bandits accustomed to life far from cities. During the day, they usually hide in cleverly made shelters deep in the sands, but outside of the warmest time they seek the prey attacking the trade routes. Some desperate bandit groups can even attack during midday when the caravan guards are likewise exhausted by the burning sun. In turn, the Indigenous inhabitants also do not make the life of merchants easier - according to some travelers, basilisks, giant scorpions, salamanders, dust mephits, sand elementals, and even gigantic purple worms traverse through the dunes and sometimes want to make the quick meal of humans passing through.
As is generally true for Torineya, but even to a bigger extent, Aaroha is filled with ancient ruins remaining - supposedly - from different eras before the current civilization took place. Rumors say, that new ancient sites are recently appearing from visibly nowhere, opening themselves for adventures - and sometimes filling surrounding sands with vicious monsters. It is, however, widely believed that the most dangerous creatures still hide inside the dungeons, guarding the secrets of the past.
The seemingly endless sands of Aaroha may also be a fitting home for different evil cults, with one example being the mysterious Cult of the Sun Lion. The members of this cult are known for coming to smaller trading posts of Aaaroha and poaching their inhabitants to come to the deep desert with the cultists to join the sect.
