Preserver

Preserver is a gutting knife cleverly disguised as a ritual dagger. It also happens to be a magical tool, wielded by necromancers, intended to create undead servants, of the permanent variety. The dagger is unsuited for throwing (lacks the "thrown" quality), and when used as a melee weapon, characters proficient in the use of daggers are counted as not being proficient with this weapon. It deals only damage equal to the wielder's strength modifier+1 (minimum of 1).
Preserver is part of a set of magical items, intended to create ghoulish servants, but when used on its own, it can only create a single ghoulish servant that will exclusively serve the user.   Charge Ability: The weapon has 6 charges and regains 1d6 charges upon dusk. Upon being plunged into a corpse, if a charge is expended, the corpse is restored to prestine condition, but is immediately mummified. The eyes turn into glass, and all of the organs shrivel up. The corpse cannot decompose for 24 hours, and will be highly resistant to decomposure even after those 24 hours have passed. The corpse will remain exactly as it when the item was used, virtually indefinitely, if the corpse is wrapped and placed inside of a container, such as a casket. The corpse cannot be resurrected during the 24 hours the effect remains in place. If the targeted corpse is medium sized and humanoid, and is then targeted with an animate dead spell, the animate dead spell immediately ends, and the corpse rises as a ghoul that serves the user until the user creates another ghoul with the knife.
