Elves once ruled over mankind in Faerûn, and because Elves favor swords, most humans did too, during this time. Elves and humans were anatomically different, so swords made for humans, by Elves, were typically made to accommodate human anatomy. During the Netherese Empire's reign and during the Time of Troubles, many Gods died and during the Spellplague many artifacts lost their power - this left a large number of scepters and rods incapable of functioning like intended, but many still held some base power - effectively making them maces. Many such are in the possession of Religious Orders who train their most devoted followers in the use of these weapons. Magic Weapons generally receive a +x bonus to Hit and a +x Bonus to Damage, but also a +1d4 against a specific type of enemy (often very specific).
