The Frostmaiden

Auril (pronounced: /ˈɔːrɪl/ AW-rill), the Frostmaiden, is also known as the "Ice-Queen", because of her unapologetic adherence to tradition without any regard for whom may be affected. Winter is a natural phenomenon, but Auril's power can worsen or lessen the effects of the frost upon the land - though she rarely listens to prayers, people beseech her for mercy as the winters keep near, and children tend to praise her when the first snows fall. Despite being regarded as an evil deity, it is said that Auril has a soft-spot for children - but whether this is true or not is unknown. As a deity primarily associated with a natural force, it is difficult to say exactly how important or powerful she really is.
