Session 9.5: Rescuing Torrieth & Searching the Witch's Hut Report
General Summary
A HIDDEN HOME
With Ondi Naya now dead, Doric quickly rushed over to her friend Torrieth who was restrained by the witch in the odd branches that served as a foundation for her hut.
Torrieth apologizes for their stupidity going out and mentions that Ondi Naya had often given her something to make her sleep.
Thaymirr Maridson and Naivara Nightstar both quickly move up the ramp that leads to the witch's hut. Doric expresses frustration that they seem more interested in loot than her friend.
The two search the hut for some time and find a number of intriging items.
Thaymirr first picks up jar and slowly opens it. As soon as it is open, he goes still and his eyes roll back in his head. He has two distinct vision with the first of him being on a throne and many elves are in a crowd cheering for him. A second vision appears where he is in a field during sunset and is with an unknown and beautiful elven woman. He gets the sense that it is someone's wife. After the two visions, his eyes roll back to normal and he is back in the hut.
Naivara looks in a wooden box by one of the three beds in the hut and finds wooden dolls that each strangely look like one of the party members. She decides to pick up the one that looks like her and it winds up speaking to her. The two go back and forth a bit and the dolls seems to inform that Ondi Naya is her mother but it is unclear how the doll was created.
As the two talk, a ball of yarn falls from a small stool closer to the fireplace. The end of it wiggles like a worm on the floor. Thaymirr decides to take the jar while Naivara continues her chat with the doll that resembles her.
Miramenor Starsinger eventually makes his way into the hut and churns the ladle in a large, green cauldron at the center of the room. Some typically unedible animal parts float to the top so he proceeds to look around the cooking space but does not find anything of interest.
Naivara proceeds to take the doll out of the box and places on the floor. As she does so, it props itself up and then starts making fun of Naivara. The doll then reveals that it knows they killed her mother. She proceeds to be sad that her "Auntie Torri" will no longer be with her either.
One of the next items that is discovered is a gold coin that Thaymirr picks up when also looking at an odd metal disc. As soon as he picks up the coin, he gets an overwhelming sense that this is the very first gold coin ever minted. He is convinced from the very core of his being that this is the truth.
While some Arcana checks provided very basic information, Naivara eventually uses Detect Magic to more clearly sense the magic in the room. During this process, she is able to reveal that the following objects link to different schools of magic:
Naivara then proceeds to pick up the doll that looks like Thaymirr. She decides to slap it wondering if it had some direct connection to Thaymirr. The doll winds up blurting out in frustration some anger at being slapped. It is revealed that the witch called this doll Thay and that she told him that she was protecting him from the "men who wanted to kill the trees".
Miramenor decides to head outside and search the garden area just outside of the hut. Unfortunately, he did not find anything of value.
In time, Doric and Torrieth wind up making their way up to the hut. Torrieth is clearly regaining some strength and the two seem ready to move on.
